Where & How do you get in?
From the carpark it is a short walk and some steps to the beach.
Best Season
Aim for summer. We snorkelled here in summer and it was the coolest water we experienced as we snorkelled around Yorke Peninsula. We were glad to have our full length wetties!

About the Snorkel
This was our last snorkel on what had been a fun snorkel safari along the east coast of Yorke Peninsula. We popped in here because it is regarded as a a good snorkel spot for beginners on Yorke Peninsula so we thought we would check it out.
Yes it was shallow here. You can walk in to the water off the beach and we had nice viz for our swim too. But there just wasn’t a lot to see. I few people spear fishing might be some of the reason why…
From the beach, we headed around to the left. We spotted a small school of zebra fish and some goat fish. There were lots of hollows in the sand that looked like they once had stingrays sitting in them, but we didn’t spot any rays on our snorkel.
We then changed direction and swam parallel to shore where we found some rock ledges about 50m from shore. There were a few old wives here and some big dusky morwongs. We peeked under the ledges for Port Jackson sharks but didn’t find any.
With the breeze picking up we called time. Sure this is an easy spot to snorkel but if you want your new snorkellers to see something, we would aim for the jetties at Wool Bay or Point Turton or the excellent little reef at Hardwicke Bay.
Port Moorowie is a pretty spot though so if you find yourself there in the right conditions, it is always worth a paddle at Point Gilbert to see what you will spot.
