Following storm damage in June 2025, a 20-metre exclusion zone was placed around the old Rapid Bay jetty in South Australia, effectively closing off a renowned dive site and threatening local tourism businesses.
Divers and operators, including Peter Corrigan of Sea Dragon Dive Lodge, are urging the government to repair and secure the jetty to allow safe access to the underwater habitat, famous for its leafy seadragons.
“It’s one of the only sites in the state where you are pretty much guaranteed to see the leafy seadragon”.
